Connolly samples commutes

Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-Va) rode the Virginia Railway Express Tuesday morning as part of his efforts to highlight the transportation choices and challenges Northern Virginia commuters face on a daily basis.

Press Release: Keith Fimian Turns His Back on Seniors

Fairfax, VA-- Tomorrow, August 14, marks the 75th anniversary of Social Security becoming law, and Keith Fimian and his Tea Party allies want to celebrate by burying Social Security. Time after time, Fimian has refused to protect Social Security benefits for thousands of Northern Virginia seniors.

Letter to the editor: Re-elect Connolly in November

I want to applaud Congressman Gerald E. "Gerry" Connolly for the fine work he has done over the course of his first term.

It is not often that either party has a leader who is willing to buck the party leadership as a freshman. Rep. Connolly has, on several votes, found the courage to break with the party line and vote his conscience and vote in the best interest of his constituents.

Editorial: Open Featherstone

A few years ago, a columnist at The Free Lance-Star newspaper in Fredericksburg described Prince William as the ugliest county in Virginia, what with all our asphalt and myriad strip malls.

He must never have gone fishing at Leesylvania State Park or been to Stoney Lonesome Farm, a rural enclave amid the busyness of Gainesville. Those would have changed his mind.

Letter to the editor: Telework plan would benefit public, too

Everyone's familiar with stock conversation starters. In many urban areas, especially this one, few workplace conversations pass without a disparaging comment about the traffic. Residents of Northern Virginia, many of whom are federal employees, face congested commutes into and out of D.C. on a daily basis. From Monday through Friday, the Beltway and I-95 are parking lots. "Gerry" Connolly, who represents the 11th district, my district, voted, along with 236 colleagues, to pass the Wall Street reform bill that will, among many other sensible measures, hold banks and corporations accountable and their practices transparent to their shareholders and to the public.

Teleworking bill passes House

By Keith Walker

Prince William County, Va. - The savings in time and money to area residents could be significant with the passing of a new bill that might very well change the way federal workers do business.

Editorial: Help heal all wounds

Are the wounds one can see worse than the ones that are often invisible to others?

Current military policy says so. Physical injuries merit the awarding of the Purple Heart, while mental trauma can bring on misunderstanding from brothers and sisters in active duty and a pile of claim paperwork for veterans.

Letter to the Editor: Connolly is watching out for taxpayers

The wave of bank and corporate bailouts in 2008 left many Americans upset and distressed at the irresponsibility of Wall Street banks and national firms, recklessness that nearly led to a full financial implosion.

Since then—and perhaps more than ever—Americans have asked for increased accountability and responsibility within these companies.
