House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer is a friend and ally in Congress fighting against the extreme right-wing agenda set by Republicans in the House. Together we stood up against the budget passed last month that privatized Medicare, one of the most popular and successful programs in our nation's history. Republicans chose to cut Medicare for our seniors, while at the same time extending tax breaks for big oil, and continuing budget deficits for years to come. Together we denounced these draconian cuts to one of the programs we value the most.
Next week, Democrats have an amazing opportunity to win a special election in western New York. This district is in deep-red Republican territory, and even though Democrats couldn't win it in wave elections in 2006 and 2008, we stand poised to win it next Tuesday. This election has turned into a referendum on the House Republican plan to privatize Medicare, and voters are showing their disgust at this scheme to privatize one of the most successful and popular government programs in our nation's history.
Thank you to all my friends and supporters who made this year's celebration a success.
Fimian Opposes Closing Gun Show Loophole, Advocates Guns on Campus in Controversial Interview on VT Tragedy
FAIRFAX, VA - A major controversy has erupted in Virginia's 11th district as Congressional candidate Keith Fimian is caught on tape advocating guns on college campuses and declaring that college students should "pack heat" to prevent gun violence. Fimian also stressed his opposition to the gun show loophole that makes it easier for criminals to obtain guns by avoiding background checks.

Connolly in the 11th
Votes on big-ticket items such as health care reform and financial bailouts frequently make headlines, but a congressman’s work, by definition, also has to embrace constituent service. It’s for this reason, among others, that Rep. Gerald E. “Gerry” Connolly should be re elected when voters head to the polls Nov. 2

ALMOST SINCE it was created following the 1990 census, the 11th Congressional District in Northern Virginia, comprising eastern Prince William County and most of Fairfax County, has been represented by savvy, detail-oriented centrists of both parties. That was true of Thomas M. Davis III, a Republican who held the seat from 1995 to 2008, and it's true of Democrat Gerald Connolly, who was elected two years ago.

Connolly in the 11th
Much has changed since Gerry Connolly beat Keith Fimian two years ago in the race to replace retiring Tom Davis. Now we have a rematch between the two, but now, even more than two years ago, it’s clear Connolly is the right man for the job.

We're rarely impressed when 90 percent of a candidate's platform involves trashing their opponent.
That's one reason we're suggesting voters pick Democrat Gerry Connolly over his Republican challenger, Keith Fimian.
Another is Connolly's history of getting things done. Before making the jump to Congress two years ago, Connolly chaired a Fairfax County board that made significant investments in local transportation, affordable housing, the environment and public safety.
In a 2008 race for retiring moderate Republican Tom Davis's seat, Virginia Democrat Gerry Connolly defeated Republican Keith Fimian by more than 10 percent. Without a doubt, Connolly was aided by the influx of Barack Obama voters. Obama won Virginia's Fairfax County, which is in Connolly's district, and became the first Democrat since Lyndon Johnson to carry the Old Dominion, which he did by 7 percent. Fast forward two years later, one year after Republican Governor Bob McDonnell carried this district in 2009, and the climate has changed. Republicans are energized. Independents are frustrated and souring. And Democrats seem lethargic, at best.
