Next week, Democrats have an amazing opportunity to win a special election in western New York. This district is in deep-red Republican territory, and even though Democrats couldn't win it in wave elections in 2006 and 2008, we stand poised to win it next Tuesday. This election has turned into a referendum on the House Republican plan to privatize Medicare, and voters are showing their disgust at this scheme to privatize one of the most successful and popular government programs in our nation's history.

Democrats are fortunate to have a terrific candidate in Kathy Hochul. Kathy is currently the County Clerk for Erie County, and served on the Hamburg Town Board before that. Having served in local government myself for 14 years, I can tell you that this type of hands-on experience is invaluable in Congress. 

This election is neck-and-neck, and every vote will make the difference. In 2009, Democrats won a similar special election in New York by just 726 votes. We need your help to make sure every Democrat gets to the polls on Election Day.

I will be hosting a phone bank for Kathy Hochul at my campaign office in Fairfax City on Thursday, May 19th from 6 - 9 PM. Can you join us and donate an hour or two of your time to help Kathy cross the finish line?

2010 was the Republicans' year, but 2011 is going to be our year. We can start the year off right by winning in New York, and head into 2012 with the momentum back on our side.
