Tax bills in 2009 at lowest level since 1950

Check out today's USA Today article about how last year's tax burden is the lowest since 1950.

Federal, state and local income taxes consumed 9.2% of all personal income in 2009, the lowest rate since 1950, the Bureau of Economic Analysis reports. That rate is far below the historic average of 12% for the last half-century. The overall tax burden hit bottom in December at 8.8.% of income before rising slightly in the first three months of 2010.

On the Blogs: Health-care relief for the children of feds?

The Washington Post's Federal Eye Blog covers Gerry Connolly's work on expanding health insurance to the children of federal employees.

Several health insurance companies plan to extend coverage to adult children up to age 26 starting in June, but current federal law prohibits OPM from doing the same for workers in the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program. The bill — cosponsored by Reps. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.), Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-D.C.) and Gerald E. Connolly (D-Va.) — was introduced amid a push by federal workers unions.

Volunteer of the Month: April

Team Connolly has been so lucky to gain the help of Pam Charin! Pam began volunteering for the Congressman’s campaign early in 2010 and since then has quickly become an integral part of the campaign efforts. Pam offers her time to contribute to various aspects of Team Connolly’s goals. Pam has brought a positive attitude into the office and continues to help fellow volunteers. Her work has brought us one step closer to victory on Nov. 2nd.

We are so happy to call Pam Charin a part of Team Connolly and look forward to her invaluable help down the stretch. Pam said, "I volunteer for the campaign because it's the most effective way to ensure that Gerry Connolly is re-elected this November.  We are extremely fortunate to have a public servant of such intellect and integrity who is also an outstanding leader.  Volunteering makes a positive difference in our communities--- which in turn benefits the whole country---because it demonstrates what's most important at the end of the day:  preserving an intelligent and balanced perspective, and, giving a higher priority to the greater good."

The venue was filled with energy and enthusiasm for Gerry Connolly’s 2010 campaign. He told the audience that, "I believe every election is tough so we're not going to get caught napping.  With your help to sustain me, we're going to win this election in November." Our campaign plans to utilize our strong grassroots base throughout this campaign. We will need your help to win on November 2nd and make sure Gerry can continue to fight for Northern Virginia.
