Connolly Campaign at Viva Vienna

The Connolly Campaign was well respresented last Sunday and Monday at Viva Vienna, the town’s annual community celebration and Memorial Day commemorative event. The team gave out bumper stickers and balloons, provided voter registration forms, and addressed campaign concerns of constituents. Gerry addressed the crowd and walked through the festival with former Governor and future Senator Tim Kaine. As always the Vienna Rotary did a terrific job organizing the festival.

2012 Annandale Bed Race

On Saturday May 5, Team Connolly partnered with Beanetics, an Annandale coffee shop, for the 8th Annual Annandale Bed Race to raise money for the Virginia Special Olympics. Almost a dozen teams participated in the Annandale tradition. This year our team came in second place.

While we didn’t win, it was reward enough to know we raced for a fantastic cause. Thanks to the Virginia Special Olympics for putting the event together and thanks everyone who showed up and participated. We hope to see you all of you again next year!

Connolly Kicks Off Re-election Bid at Annual Fete

At his 2012 St. Patrick's Day Fete, Gerry spoke to a crowd of more than 1,200 about the upcoming election and announced that he was running for re-election.

"Some Republicans think 2008 was a fluke, that Virginia lost its head," Connolly said. But he said Virginia's shift in presidential elections from a reliably red state toward the blue end of the spectrum was ". . .a permanent trend. . ." that would help Obama.

". . .I think this country is going to look at the the other side, and see [we] have the right guy in the White House. . ," Connolly said.

Countdown to St. Patrick's Day: Less than 60 days

It’s that time of the year again -- time for our annual St. Patrick’s Day Fête! For 17 years my wife Smitty and I have been holding our St. Patrick’s Day Fête as a way for our family, friends, and supporters to gather and enjoy Irish food, drink and entertainment. Over the years it has grown from a small gathering of less than 100 people to last year’s event of more than 1,200. Each year continues to out-do the last and, whether you attended in previous years or have never attended, we would love for you to be a part of our celebration this year.

Come join us on Friday, March 16th from 7:00 PM - 9:30 PM at the Kena Temple on Arlington Blvd in Fairfax for the festivities and to help raise money for Gerry's reelection campaign. Tickets start at $40 and include a full Irish dinner of corned-beef, cabbage and other traditional Irish fare. We hope to see you and your family there.

Congressman Connolly's Statement on the Kaine-Allen Debate

Congressman Gerry Connolly issued this statement following the Kaine-Allen U.S. Senate debate in Richmond this afternoon:

“Today’s Virginia U.S. Senate debate made it crystal clear that Tim Kaine is the candidate with a vision for Virginia’s future, while George Allen is mired in the past.

“Tim Kaine presented solid proposals to reinvigorate our nation’s economy and ensure global competitiveness.  He proudly touted his record of fiscal discipline, balanced budgets, bipartisanship, and economic growth as Governor.

“Sadly, George Allen tried to sidestep his record of failed economic policies that increased the federal deficit.  The last thing Washington needs is more of Allen’s style of hyper-partisanship and divisive, dehumanizing politics.

“There is no doubt that Tim Kaine was the victor in this debate."

Northern Virginia Democrats Excel in 2011 Election

Democrats in Northern Virginia have a lot to celebrate. Despite the pundit's predictions of huge Republican victories, we re-elected all three targeted senators: George Barker, Toddy Puller, and Dave Marsden. We overcame tough odds, and are proud that these Democrats will continue to serve in the State Senate.

In addition, Democrats were re-elected to the House of Delegates, and we held all of our seats on the Fairfax and Prince William Board of Supervisors and School Board. In fact, not a single incumbent Democrat at any level lost in the 11th District. These results send a powerful message that Northern Virginia wants a re-balancing of the Tea Party victories of 2009 and 2010. Voters strongly rejected ideological extremism and instead came out in support of forward-thinking, results-oriented, pragmatic leadership.

Republicans spent over $5 million trying to take the State Senate. Their negative campaigning couldn't overcome the hard work of thousands of volunteers across the region who made phone calls, knocked doors, and put up yard signs.

Virginia is still a purple state, and will again be very competitive in 2012. Voters will look to candidates with real plans and new ideas for fixing the economy and creating jobs. The campaign for 2012 starts today.

Volunteering with Your State and Local Campaigns

Right now, the only thing standing between Virginia and Ken Cuccinelli's radical agenda is the 22-18 Democratic majority in the State Senate. It is critical that every Democrat in the region volunteer to help re-elect our Democratic state senators. We also need to win additional seats on the local board of supervisors, school board, and the Virginia House of Delegates.

Every Democrat we put into office this November brings us a step closer to keeping Virginia a blue state in 2012. The people we elect to local office will not only bring their forward-thinking perspective to our region, but their election will send a powerful national message that a rebalance of tea party victories last fall is now under way.

Can you help our state and local candidates by volunteering a few hours of your time between now and November 8th? They need you to knock on doors, work in the office, make phone calls, put our yard signs, help at festivals, or any other way you can help them win!

We have a terrific slate of Democrats running for office this year. With such great candidates, and the help of volunteers like you, we can keep Northern Virginia blue.

Please sign up to volunteer by clicking here or give the Connolly for Congress Campaign a call at 703-375-9374. We are happy to match you with a campaign in your area.

UPDATE: Connolly Cruisers at the 2011 Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure!

Team Photo

The Connolly Cruisers came out in record numbers to support the 2011 Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure!

Our team won the Politico “State of Pink” challenge for a third consecutive year. The effort to raise awareness and fund breast cancer research is dear to our hearts.  Recently, a senior staff member lost his spouse, Jessica, to breast cancer. The Connolly Cruisers dedicated their race efforts in her memory.  Congressman Connolly and his staff would like to thank all of the participants and supporters who contributed to the success of this event.
